Synnex's Consumer Electronics President Retires
He will be succeeded by Fred Towns, the current senior vice president of sales and marketing for New Age Electronics and Jack of All Games on March 1, according to Synnex. Carroll was a co-founder and longtime president of New Age and continued that role at Synnex after the distributor acquired New Age in 2008.
“We have planned well for Adam’s retirement. We are prepared for this next chapter and are excited for how our future will unfold,” said Towns in a statement. “I thank Adam personally for teaching me his successful ways and for handing over the reins. He is a true example of achieving the American Dream.”
Peter Larocque, president of U.S. distribution at Synnex, said Carroll played a "vital role in making the integration of the consumer electronics business a success," in a statement.
Carroll was a well-known figure to both vendors and retailers at New Age and one channel insider noted that when "Synnex bought new Age it was really buying Adam."
But Carroll may have lost some luster inside Synnex after it was reported that the distributor was one of the largest unsecured creditors of Ultimate Electronics, which filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 26 owing Synnex/New Age $5.5 million, according to The Oregonian newspaper.
A Synnex spokeswoman said Carroll's retirement was not related to Ultimate Electronics or any other performance issues and noted that he will serve as an executive advisor for the company.
