DOJ To Formally Charge China's Huawei: Reuters

The U.S. Department of Justice is expected this afternoon to formally file criminal charges related to China-based Huawei.

Reuters on Monday reported that the Justice Department is holding a "China-related law enforcement action" at 4:30 p.m. Eastern.

The charges could be related to the December arrest by Canadian authorities of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's chief financial officer and the daughter of Huawei Founder Ren Zhengfei. Meng is currently the subject of extradition talks between the U.S. and Canada.

Meng was arrested by Canadian authorities in December as she was transferring between air flights in Vancouver, and is being held in relation to a her time as head of a Huawei-affiliated company that allegedly sold Hewlett-Packard equipment to Iran in violation of U.S. regulations.

Reuters also said the U.S. may also be preparing to indict Huawei for stealing robotic technology from T-Mobile. The technology is used to test smartphone durability.

Huawei was unable to respond to a request for further information by press time.
