HP Edges Out Dell In Channel Madness Battle: Round 1 Results
A few tight matchups took it down to the wire in Round 1 voting of the 2020 CRN Channel Madness Tournament of Chiefs. Here’s how it all played out.
After a week of voting where many fans across the country are holed up at home and looking for a distraction from the coronavirus outbreak, the polls are now closed and the winners in Round 1 of the 2020 CRN Channel Madness Tournament of Chiefs are set.
While some channel chiefs jumped out to early leads and maintained them throughout the round, others took it right down to the wire. Here's a look at how they fared and who’s moving on to the Solutions 16.
The closest match of the contest played out in the Hardware region, where Dell Technologies’ Joyce Mullen and HP Inc.’s Scott Lannum took it right down to the wire. Tournament rookie Lannum emerged as the victor, winning a squeaker with 50.5 percent of the vote to Mullen’s 49.5 percent.
Another nail-biter took shape in the Security region where McAfee’s Ken McCray, winner of the 2018 Channel Madness tournament, traded leads with SonicWall’s HoJin Kim. McCray pulled out the victory with 51 percent of the vote to Kim’s 49 percent.
Elsewhere in the Security region, reigning Channel Madness champion Chris Carter of FireEye was knocked out of the tournament by Juniper’s Gordon Mackintosh. Mackintosh won with 60 percent of the vote to Carter’s 40 percent.
In a major upset in the Cloud region, Intermedia’s Jonathan McCormick overcame an early deficit to win 54 percent of the vote to surge past 2019 semifinalist Jenni Flinders of VMware, who garnered 46 percent.

In Infrastructure, Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Paul Hunte r will take on APC's Shannon Sba r, while Cisco’s Oliver Tuszik faces Lenovo’s Nicole Roskill.
In Hardware, Lexmark’s Sammy Kinlaw will square off against HP's Scott Lannum, while Lenovo's Rob Cato will test his mettle against Donna Grothjan of Aruba, an HPE Company.
In Cloud, Veeam’s Kevin Rooney will go toe-to-toe with Google's Carolee Gearhart, while Microsoft’s Garviella Schuster goes up against Intermedia’s Jonathan McCormick.
The Security region will see Check Point's Frank Rauch face Juniper’s Gordon Mackintosh, while Kendra Krause of Sophos challenges Ken McCray of McAfee.
