AWS Introduces Intelligent Security And Integrated Cloud Migration Capabilities At New York Summit
Amazon Web Services introduced on Monday an artificially intelligent security service to patrol cloud-based data stores, as well as a central hub aggregating a range of tools partners use to facilitate cloud migrations.
Amazon Macie, the fully managed security service uses machine learning to detect intruders and data leaks, and AWS Migration Hub were introduced to partners at an AWS Summit event in New York City.
The public cloud leader also launched for general release its new ETL (extract, transform, load) service, AWS Glue, previously teased at the AWS re:Invent conference last year.

AWS Migration Hub provides a unified repository of several migration solutions introduced to partners in recent years to ease their work moving customers from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud.
Those include AWS Application Discovery Service that automates system discovery; Server Migration Services that migrate workloads to Amazon's cloud; and AWS Database Migration Service for moving relational databases. Third-party solutions from migration specialists like CloudEndure and Racemi are also included on the new platform.
Migration Hub, in addition to pulling together those diverse tools, "guides you through the migration process, and tracks the status of each migration," blogged AWS chief evangelist Jeff Barr.
Amazon Macie discovers threats and safeguards customer data using machine learning algorithms that are trained to identify personally identifiable information or intellectual property, Matt Wood, AWS' general manager for artificial intelligence, told attendees of the New York conference.
The fully managed service looks for anomalies when data is accessed or moved and alerts customers of possible data leaks or unauthorized users accessing the system.
Jason McKay, CTO of Logicworks, said Macie was the highlight of the conference for the New York-based AWS partner’s DevOps and DevSecOps teams.
’We immediately saw that this was a perfect foundation for compliance and security focused MSPs like Logicworks to build repeatable, supported and scalable security and governance tooling for our clients' critical applications,’ McKay told CRN.
AWS continues delivering to its channel foundational building blocks they can use to craft high-value, high-impact offerings, he said.
’Clients may see the initial potential, but our teams will dig into the technical details and produce a solution that is polished and ready to implement on their behalf,’ McKay told CRN.
Macie is generally available to guard data stored in AWS S3 simple storage service. The service will be expanded to support other AWS data stores later in the year, Amazon announced.
Amazon CTO Werner Vogels first unveiled AWS Glue, a fully-managed data catalog that pieces together data management features, at the re:Invent conference in December.
The service, now accessible to all users through the AWS Management Console, can be used to quickly prepare and load data into S3 storage or various databases available on Amazon's cloud.
