Oracle Partners Get New Boost To ‘Service Anywhere’ With GoldenGate

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure GoldenGate brings new automated, scalable capabilities for customers to pay as they go, giving partners an opportunity to tap into the SMB market.

Oracle has made its GoldenGate data integration tool available as a managed service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), a move company executives believe will help partners with customers that have fragmented data and want to work with multiple clouds.

The new OCI GoldenGate turns the tool into a pay-as-you-go managed service with capabilities for automation and scaling, Jeff Pollock, Oracle vice president of products, told CRN. Cloud customers gain a platform to design, execute, orchestrate and monitor data replication and streaming data events, saving time and expense.

“What’s cool about this service for our partners is you get access to this industrial-strength software,” Pollock said. “You can run it as a fully managed service, and it’s not going to cost you an arm and a leg. So that’s a big, big change in the market approach that we’ve covered with this service.”

The news is a sign of Oracle continuing to bring its technologies together as a single data platform, Dan McDougal, president of Performance Tuning Corp., an Austin, Texas-based Oracle Gold Partner focused on database and data integration services, told CRN.

McDougal, whose company employs 15 people full time, said the GoldenGate tool has helped customers using products and services from multiple vendors achieve real-time integration.

“Service anywhere within their enterprise or even externally is what people are excited about today, and we’re excited to be able to help them get there with these tools,” he said.

The news is part of Oracle’s investments in making its database offerings more powerful for cloud users. Earlier this year, the company revealed new updates to its Autonomous Warehouse tool.

Oracle’s GoldenGate tool helped put it in Gartner’s “Leaders” Magic Quadrant for 2020 data integration tools before the launch of this new OCI version. The tech giant hopes that users who aren’t database administrators can use the tool to transform data and simplify on-premises to cloud and hybrid integrations. It also hopes users see the tool as more cost-effective than competitive offerings including Snowflake and find that it contains more capabilities than competitive offerings from Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.

The service is built on the GoldenGate 21c micro services architecture and integrates with on-premises Docker and Kubernetes “mesh” deployments of GoldenGate with no shared framework dependencies or shared repository.

The new GoldenGate service is also an opportunity for SMBs, Pollock said.

“We’re finding an incredible opportunity right now for customers that might have experimented with other clouds but now they’re looking to kind of go industrial,” he said. “By focusing on the affordability and the ease of use with this new cloud announcement, we’re really looking to expand the market more toward the SMB and the midsize. And we think our partners are going to have a lot of success getting into those new logos that maybe traditionally wouldn’t have gone for a GoldenGate in an on-premises environment.”
