SHI Invests In Data Migration-To-Cloud Provider mLogica

The investment is aimed at bringing SHI closer to technology developed by mLogica for migrating databases and applications to the cloud and for real-time ingestion and processing of big data and analytics.

Global IT solution provider SHI International this week said it made a strategic investment in mLogica, a developer of technologies for migrating on-premises databases and applications to the cloud.

The investment by SHI into mLogica gives the Somerset, N.J.-based solution provider a close relationship to a developer of some very unique intellectual property, said Randy Barnhardt, SHI‘s vice president of cloud and innovation solutions.

“When we were having early discussions with mLogica‘s executive team, we saw that both our companies’ directions were the same,” Barnhardt told CRN. ”It made sense to pursue a strategic alliance to help us work closely together for our customers. And it allows us to share a lot of IP (intellectual property) and sales efforts.”

Barnhardt said SHI is not disclosing either the terms of the deal or what percent of mLogica‘s equity is included in the investment.

SHI is ranked No. 11 on CRN‘s 2020 Solution Provider 500 list.

With the agreement, SHI will have full access to mLogica‘s technologies and will be authorized to deliver services based on that technology alone or in partnership with mLogica.

mLogica has three focus areas that are of strategic importance to SHI, Barnhardt said. The first is an automated migration suite for migrating databases and applications to the cloud in an expedited fashion. The second is mLogica‘s MCAP big data and analytics platform for real-time ingesting and processing of data. The third is mLogica’s managed services that dovetail into SHI’s own managed services, he said.

Despite the investment by SHI into mLogica, mLogica is open to pursue other channel partnerships, while SHI will also work with other partners in the application and database migration business, Barnhardt said.

“We don‘t think mLogica will change its other relationships,” he said. ”It’s not what we are asking them to do. This just means we’ll be working more closely together.”
