Samsung Galaxy S IV Hype Ramps Up Amid Specs Leaks

The Galaxy S IV launch is scheduled for March 14 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Rather than introduce the smartphone at the recent Consumer Electronics Show or Mobile World Congress alongside other new products like the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung held back the Galaxy S IV for its own special event, dubbed "Samsung Unpacked 2013."

This week, rumors and reports about the device's technical specifications and features have begun to leak. According to a New York Times report, the new smartphone has a compelling new "eye scrolling" feature.

The phone will be able to follow a user's eyes and determine whether to scroll the display up or down a page, according to the report. The Times report also states that Samsung filed for a U.S. trademark for "Samsung Eye Scroll."

Additional reports have emerged about the device's components and technical specs. Expansys, an online consumer electronics retailer, posted what the company claims are the official specs of the Galaxy S IV on the retailer's French and Italian websites. According to those posts, the Samsung smartphone will pack a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor with eight cores. The chip has four ARM Cortex-A15 cores running at 1.8GHz for maximum performance and an additional four energy-saving Cortex-A7 cores running at 1.2GHz for more efficient power consumption.

According to Expansys, the Galaxy S IV will come with a 5-inch super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and pixel density of more than 440 ppi. There's also a 13-megapixel camera, 2 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of internal storage, plus microSD card support for an additional 64 GB. And of course, the Samsung smartphone comes with Android version 4.2, or "Jelly Bean" OS, as well as 4G LTE support.

The retailer's Galaxy S IV landing page also claims the device will have "Eye Scroll" and "Eye Pause" features.

There's also a debate about the device's case, with some reports claiming that the Galaxy S IV will indeed come with a plastic case like its predecessor, the Galaxy S III, instead of moving to an aluminum design.
