Dynabook’s New Releases Thwart Supply Chain Woes With Foxconn Backing

World’s largest electronics manufacture backs former Toshiba rebranding efforts. ‘Having this Foxconn relationship has allowed us to look further down the road and see what’s getting ready to break. With that, we’ve been able to have this very unique thought leadership role with our customer base,’ Dynabook General Manager James Robbins tells CRN.

Dynabook, formerly known as Toshiba Client Solutions Co., has released a new high-end 14-inch Portégé business laptop featuring the new 12th Gen Intel Core P-Series processor and Windows 11 Pro.

The X40L-K is the company’s new flagship business computer, boasting increased performance, a lighter frame, and an appealing new “Tech Blue” mangnesium alloy chassis at a price of $1,799. The company, with its Americas headquarters in Irvine, Calif., also refreshed its core line of Portégé laptops with the latest Intel hardware and Windows software.

While much of the industry has been wrapped up in supply chain-induced backlogs, Dynabook has found a work-around with solid supplier relationships and backing from its parent company, Taiwan powerhouse Foxconn Technology Group – the world’s largest electronics manufacturer.

Dynabook Americas General Manager James Robbins (pictured above) said the company has been able to build a quick following by leveraging its Toshiba heritage and Foxconn’s financial muscle. “Having this Foxconn relationship has allowed us to look further down the road and see what’s getting ready to break. With that, we’ve been able to have this very unique thought leadership role with our customer base,” he said, adding that Dynabook is able to quickly adjust orders and make suggestions based on future inventory.

Besides the new flagship X40L-K, other top Portégé models are getting a refresh – including the X30L and X30W. Those models will also get a boost from the 12th Gen Intel Core vPRO processors. All new computers can be configured with Windows 11. Windows 10 is also an option for those who aren’t quite ready to make the leap because of compatibility conerns. Dynabook will upgrade to Windows 11 Pro from Windows 10 Pro free of charge.

Pricing for the products will start at $1,379 for the X30L-K and $1,599.99 for the X30W-K.

“I’m even more impressed with the new products we have coming out than I thought I’d be,” Robbins said. “They are really, really amazing products. Because we control the manufacture cycle, we are also able to control the quality unlike anybody else in the business. We also have the lowest failure rates in the industry.”

The private company doesn’t disclose its financials. But Richard Vaughn, Dynabook’s senior director of channel sales, said the company is thriving with 30 to 40 percent sales growth quarter over quarter. “We’re already seeing lots of interest in the new products from channel partners,” Vaughn said. “I’m very excited about the new (X40L-K). I can’t wait to get mine.”

New Dock Also on the Menu

Dynabook also announced its new Thunderbolt 4 Dock, which expands the viewing area, connectivity and capabilities of any compatible laptop and takes care of cable clutter. The dock offers zippy transfer rates of up to 40 gigabytes per second. It has two HDMI 2.0 ports, two DisplayPort 1.4 and Thunderbolt 4 port connections to support a variety of external display configurations.

Price for the Thuderbolt Dock is $349 and includes a three-year warranty.
