Lenovo Opens Preorders For X1 Fold, Debuts Highly Portable New ThinkPad

The PC maker is also unveiling a new portfolio of ThinkBook SMB-focused laptops.

Lenovo Tuesday unveiled a major expansion of its business-friendly ThinkBook and ThinkPad notebook portfolios while opening preorders for its trailblazing foldable laptop, the ThinkPad X1 Fold.

In January, Lenovo made a splash at CES 2020 with the unveiling of its ThinkPad X1 Fold, the first mainstream foldable PC. The company is touting a wide range of possible use cases for the device —either as a tablet, a laptop or a desktop PC.

While the X1 Fold does offer a digital on-display keyboard that can be used when the device is partially folded, the device also can be used with a Bluetooth keyboard that can magnetically attach to the lower screen for use in a standard notebook fashion.

Apart from the keyboard, the ThinkPad X1 Fold can serve as a dual-display device with a number of options for multitasking across the two screens.

When opened fully in a tablet orientation, the device offers a 13.3-inch OLED display with resolution of 2,048 x 1,536. The X1 Fold includes a built-in kickstand for standing the device up while fully opened.

The starting price for the ThinkPad X1 Fold is $2,499, and preorders are now open. Lenovo did not release details on how soon the X1 Fold will ship.

Elsewhere in Lenovo’s ThinkPad lineup, the company unveiled the ThinkPad X1 Nano—which the company is calling the “lightest ThinkPad ever” with a starting weight of 1.99 pounds.

The 13-inch notebook will also feature a new 16:10 aspect ratio—offering a larger workspace area on the screen—along with 11th-generation Intel Core processors, optional 5G connectivity and 17.3 hours of battery life.

Lenovo saids the ThinkPad X1 Nano will have a starting price of $1,399. On availability, the company said the X1 Nano will be shipping in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Finally, Lenovo Tuesday unveiled an expansion for its ThinkBook portfolio, which is aimed at small and midsize businesses.

The announcements include the ThinkBook 14s Yoga, which will be the first convertible ThinkBook when it debuts in November for a starting price of $879.

Lenovo also unveiled second-gen models for a number of its ThinkBook offerings, including the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2, which will offer an optional WQXGA display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and minimal bezels around the screen.

The ThinkBook 15p, meanwhile, will serve as a high-performance ThinkBook option with Nvidia GTX 1650Ti graphics.

Several of the second-generation ThinkBooks—including the ThinkBook 15, 14 and 13s—will be offered with a choice of either Intel or AMD processors, as well.

The new ThinkBooks are expected to launch in October or November, with starting prices ranging from $569 for the second-generation ThinkBook 14 and 15 up to $939 for the ThinkBook 15p.
