Review: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga OLED

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga OLED has a long name, but don’t let that scare you off from this amazing laptop. And you can't really fault Lenovo for trying to squeeze so much into the name. I’ll explain.

First off, this is a ThinkPad, so it’s durable and fast. Its Intel Core i5 chip and 8 gigs of RAM ensure you can get a ton of work done on it.

Second, it’s a Yoga, which tells you it’s really flexible, light and thin. It weighs in at 2.8 pounds and is two-thirds-of-an-inch thick, and of course it has the signature 360-degree hinge that lets you fold the display all the way back.

Third, it’s OLED, which is really the exciting part. OLED means better colors and a brighter picture than you can get with LCD. And the 14-inch display on the X1 Yoga is a stunner. It’s terrific for video viewing but the display also makes it a pleasure to do work on. The touch screen also works great on the X1 Yoga.

One downside: The gorgeous display does tend to drain the battery, which gave us just four hours of life in our test. It’s also clearly a premium machine, with a price tag of $2,000 for the model we tested.

The bottom line, though? The X1 Yoga OLED is one of the best all-around laptops we’ve tried out lately in the CRN Test Center, and it’s definitely worth a look--especially if you’re on the hunt for what’s next in displays.
