Asigra Unveils Cloud Backup For Tablets, Smart Phones
Asigra also introduced its first-ever cloud backup technology which service providers can take to consumers, and increased the automation and performance characteristics of its products, said Ashar Baig, senior director of product marketing for the Toronto-based company.
Asigra Cloud Backup v11 is the industry's first and only enterprise-class cloud-based backup and recovery solution that also protects tablet PCs and smart phones, Baig said.
It comes at a time when the rapid adoption of mobile smart devices is forcing IT departments to find new ways to protect their users' data, he said. "Because of the replication of end user devices in the enterprise, IT is having to react to their needs," he said.
The application supports devices running iOS and Android operating system, with apps that let those devices access the cloud available from the Apple App Store, Android Market, and the Amazon Appstore, Baig said.
Customers of MSPs who adopt the Asigra Cloud Backup v11 technology can enable their users to recover data to their devices from any point in time. "We also cover their customers' entire digital footprint," he said. "From tablets to smart phones to laptops, Asigra is the only company today providing it all."
MSPs dealing direct with end-users can apply Asigra's enterprise-class technology to those customers with the vendor's new DS-Consumer offering, Baig said.
Unlike the consumer-focused offerings of most cloud storage companies, DS-Consumer offers what Asigra calls Recovery, Restore Assurance, or R2A. "When data arrives to the cloud, we do a data integrity check as it is stored, and then do a dry run to test if the data can be restored," Baig said.
Asigra is also automating its Cloud License Server so that a cloud backup system which runs out of capacity can automatically get new licenses needed to expand the capacity with no downtime, Baig said.
Also new is the DS-NOC, a centralized command center which provides a single interface for MSPs to monitor and manage the entire range of Asigra backup cloud offerings.
Asigra also added multi-thread processing, parallel processing, and improved algorithms to improve the performance of its Asigra Cloud Backup v11 by two to four times compared to v10, Baig said.
