Emerging Storage Vendors To Know In 2022

As part of CRN’s Emerging Vendors for 2022, here are 10 data storage and disaster recovery startups, founded in 2016 or after, that solution providers should be know about.

The New Generation Of Storage Vendors

The total amount of data created and replicated, worldwide, will grow at a 23 percent CAGR from 79 zettabytes in 2021 to 181 zettabytes in 2025, according to market researcher IDC.

While most of that data isn’t saved, enough is stored to drive sales of data management and data storage systems that meet the need for ever-increasing capacity. IDC calculates that the “Global StorageSphere” – the total installed base of data storage capacity – reached 7.9 zettabytes in 2021 and will grow at a CAGR rate of greater than 19 percent through 2025.

That’s generating demand for leading-edge technologies for storing, managing, protecting and moving growing volumes of data. And that’s fueling a new crop of startups developing the next generation of data storage and disaster recovery systems.

As part of CRN’s Emerging Vendors for 2022, here are 10 data storage technology startups, founded in 2016 or later, that the channel should know about.

Calamu

Founded: 2018

Top Executive: Paul Lewis, Founder and CEO

Calamu develops what it calls “data-first” security technology that protects against data breaches and data theft.

Calamu Protect works by processing data from server workloads and end-user workstations, automatically fragmenting and scattering data across multiple, separate storage locations and making it useless to hackers. Data is automatically reconstituted for use by authorized users and applications.

Calamu, headquartered in Clinton, N.J., raised $16.5 million in Series A funding in February.

Filebase

Founded: 2019

Top Executive: Joshua Noble, Co-Founder and CEO

Filebase develops an S3-compatible object storage platform that stores data in a secure, redundant and performant manner across multiple, decentralized storage networks.

The startup’s Managed Object Storage platform unifies multiple networks under a single S3-compatible API, enabling customers to save more than 90 percent on storage costs compared to traditional cloud providers, according to the company.

Filebase is headquartered in Boston.
