5 Things To Know About Dell's 10th-Gen Latitude Notebook Lineup

Dell is doubling down on portability and security for the latest refresh to its business-focused Latitude notebook portfolio.

Dell is going all out with the 10th-generation launch of its business-friendly Latitude notebook portfolio. The launch includes a fully refreshed lineup of Latitude 7000, 5000 and 3000 notebooks, in addition to a pair of new 2-in-1 Latitude models. The Latitude's 10th generation sees Dell doubling down on security, portability, performance and ease-of-use. The Round Rock, Texas-based company is unveiling the new Latitudes in connection with Dell Technologies World 2019 in Las Vegas this week. Dell said the 10th-generation Latitude notebooks are available as of May 1.

What follows are five key things to know about Dell's refreshed Latitude notebook lineup.

Security And Management

Dell says that many of the new Latitude models feature options for both fingerprint readers and facial recognition IR cameras for using Windows Hello log-in. Many of the models also offer webcam privacy shutters, as well as a FIPS 201 contacted Smart Card Reader or contactless Smart Card Reader with SafeID, to guard user credentials. Additionally, the new Latitudes feature Dell's just-launched SafeBIOS offering. Rather than storing BIOS information on the hardware itself, which is susceptible to corruption, Dell SafeBIOS is an off-host BIOS verification capability.

Dell said it has also optimized the 10th-generation Latitude notebooks to work with the company's new integrated solution for end-user computing, the Dell Technologies Unified Workspace. The offering aims to dramatically improve everything from device selection to deployment to security and management.

Latitude 7000

Dell's top-of-the-line Latitude 7000 models now offer either a traditional carbon-fiber body or an aluminum chassis. The Latitude 7300 (pictured) and Latitude 7400 offer 13.3-inch and 14-inch display sizes, respectively, with up to FHD resolution. The notebooks are now more portable with a 6 percent smaller size all around, making them "the world’s smallest premium business-class notebooks available," according to Dell. Both models weigh below 3 pounds, with the Latitude 7300 starting at 2.74 pounds and the Latitude 7400 starting at 2.99 pounds.

Meanwhile, the Latitude 7000 models offer up to 20 hours of battery life, a 25 percent improvement over past models, along with "ExpressCharge" capabilities--which enable users to get 80 percent of their battery recharged in an hour. The Latitude 7000 series notebooks also include up to quad-core, eighth-gen Intel Core i7 vPro processors; up to 32 GB of RAM; and an optional 4x4 CAT 16 WWAN antenna that can provide LTE speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

The Dell Latitude 7000 series has a starting price of $1,299.

Latitude 5000

For the Latitude 5000 series, Dell is offering improvements such as a new carbon-fiber reinforced chassis and up to 22 hours of battery life. The Latitude 5000 models are available in 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch display sizes with up to FHD display resolution. On performance, the notebooks offer up to quad-core, eighth-gen Intel Core i7 vPro processors; up to 32 GB of RAM; and optional AMD Radeon 540X discrete graphics for the 14-inch and 15.6-inch models. In addition, the Latitude 5000 rates high on portability with a starting weight of 2.73 pounds (for the 13.3-inch Latitude 5300, pictured). The Latitude 5000 series overall offers "the world’s smallest mainstream business-class notebooks," according to Dell.

The Dell Latitude 5000 series has a starting price of $819.

Latitude 3000

For the entry-level Latitude 3000 models, Dell is touting "an even smaller footprint and an updated look." Along with the usual 14-inch and 15.6-inch models, Dell has also introduced a 13.3-inch version in the series (pictured). The notebook is "the world’s smallest and lightest 13-inch essential notebook," according to Dell.

The Dell Latitude 3000 series has a starting price of $599.

Latitude 2-in-1s

Dell is also introducing new 2-in-1 models in the Latitude 7000 and 5000 series portfolios. The Latitude 7200 2-in-1 (pictured) is a detachable tablet offering a 12.3-inch FHD display and a brushed aluminum finish. The tablet attaches to a now-sturdier, backlit keyboard. The 7200 2-in-1 also features an emphasis on portability with a lighter and thinner design than in the past—with a weight of 2.64 pounds and a starting thickness of 0.61 of an thick, for both tablet and keyboard combined.

Meanwhile, the Latitude 5300 2-in-1 is a convertible notebook featuring a 13.3-inch, anti-smudge FHD touch display, with durable Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and up to 255 nits of brightness. The 5300 2-in-1 also has a starting weight of just 3.15 pounds and can be configured with up to 32 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

The Dell Latitude 7200 2-in-1 has a starting price of $999, and the Dell Latitude 5300 2-in-1 has a starting price of $949.
