Intel Names Micron Exec To Succeed George Davis As New CFO
David Zinser is taking over Intel’s CFO role from George S. Davis, who plans to retire in May. Zinser was most recently executive vice president and CFO of Micron Technology, a Boise, Idaho-based company that manufactures memory and storage products.
Intel has appointed Micron Technology executive David Zinsner to succeed George S. Davis as the chipmaker’s new chief financial officer.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company announced the appointment Monday and said Zinsner, who is also taking the title of executive vice president, will begin as CFO and report to CEO Pat Gelsinger starting Jan. 17. Zinsner will be responsible for overseeing Intel’s global finance organization, with teams spanning finance, accounting and reporting, tax, treasury, internal audit, and investor relations.

Intel started a search for a new CFO last October when it announced that Davis planned to retire from the company in May 2022. A former Qualcomm executive, Davis joined Intel in April 2019, taking over the permanent CFO post that was previously occupied by former Intel CEO Bob Swan.
The chipmaker said Davis will remain with Intel in an advisory role with the company until his retirement in May to “ensure a seamless transition.”
“On behalf of the Intel team, I want to thank George for his outstanding contributions during a pivotal moment of the company’s history,” said Gelsinger, who succeeded Swan as CEO in 2021, in a statement. “He has been a great leader and colleague, and we are grateful for the integral role he played on our transformation journey. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
With more than 20 years of experience in finance and operations at semiconductor and manufacturing companies, Zinsner was most recently executive vice president and CFO of Micron Technology, a Boise, Idaho-based company that manufactures memory and storage products. Prior to Micron, he was president and COO at Affirmed Networks. He also served as CFO at Analog Devices and Intersil Corp.
“I am excited to join Intel, a company I’ve long admired with a storied history of innovation and technology leadership,” Zinsner said in a statement. “Intel’s scale, re-invigorated culture and depth of technical talent positions the company to capitalize on the unprecedented demand for semiconductors across the globe. I look forward to working with Pat and the rest of the leadership team to help drive the IDM 2.0 strategy forward and create long-term value for shareholders.”
